More

The soundtrack to the movie More, most commonly known as more. The Movie is about a naïve boy that falls in love with a bad girl who introduces him to drugs. He then falls in love with drugs and dies. Soundtracks that have been specifically written to fit into the frame work of a movie don't always prove to be the best albums when standing on their own especially when the band providing the music is a progressive band that works outside of any constraints. This said I still find many redeemable songs and qualities to this album. Mainly the fact that I enjoy instrumental pieces so much and Pink Floyd has always excelled in that area.

Cirrus Minor:

This is a very Avant-garde piece. Like many Floyd songs it opens with sound, this time birds chirping, which we see again in the Wall & Ummagumma. It sounds like an electric folk song with drifty fleeting stanzas about a journey.

The Nile Song:

A very heavy song for the band. It is almost punk with its screaming lyrics and pounding back beat. It is the main characters apocalyptic foreshadowed doom.

Crying Song:

This is a light ballad, with a high pitched almost muted ambient background. Roger Water's rough vocals make for an interesting contrast. David Gilmore's solos are nicely twisted around the rest of the music.

Up the Khyber:

The intro sounds much like pieces of Ummagumma later. It is a jangly opening, lightly fretting about the soundscape. The piece is very abstract and filled with an underlying tension.

Green is the Color:

This folk style song features some great piano pieces as well as some truly beautifully sung lyrics.

Cymbaline:

The opening of this song when it swings into the drawn out chorus is quite a moving experience and the repetition of this element really balances this piece into a conventionally structured piece of music.

Party Sequence:

High tempo beat blends with screeching instrumentals.

Main theme:

The progressive synthesized beats are way ahead of their time in this piece. Especially the fact that it overlays an esoteric backing sound.

Ibiza Bar:

The deconstructing feel of the song is a powerful feature. The song destroys every element it builds up.

More Blues:

Just a really strong blues riff., highlighted y the electric guitar solos.

Quicksilver:

Descent into madness similar to Saucerful of secrets type of sound. Disharmony in the effects and the music.

A Spanish Piece:

Nice piece of guitar work, a traditional south western sound mixed with abstract lyrics.

Dramatic Theme:

Rolling beats with spikes of guitar. Also has a good looping sound quality.
