Meddle

Meddle marked the debut of drummer Nick Mason to the lineup. Many refer to Meddle as the first true Pink Floyd album. It was the album with the greatest lineup of four members and it was the album that set a pace and concept to the band. I have always liked this album due to the smooth transitions between the music. Which except for Seamus is really linked style wise. The album is like a huge wave of sound that just keeps a seemingly random pacing that all ties in together as the music progresses.

One of these days

This song comes in with a nice bass backing rhythm. This song has a lot of mood to it, it seems very dark. The sound is very much like a techno beat with weird sound effects and high and low pitches.

A pillow of winds

This song is one of the most mellow I have ever heard. Especially the line “with my love by my side and she's breathing low”. The song has such a golden quality to it. It is dreamlike with some of the best lyrics and fantastic mood music. The song touches on natural elements which was a prevalent theme in many of their songs leading up to this one, example “Grand Chester Meadows”. I like the bending of the notes on the guitar solos, they are great.

Fearless

This song keeps in step well, it rises up quickly and back down. There are the muted sounds of groups of people chanting. The music is the image of the lyrics, climbing the hill. It is seamless in the layering of so many multiple sounds and instruments and the chanting that it is defiantly one of my favorites.

San Tropez

I like this jazz based song. It interesting to hear Floyd lyrics set to a more traditional song pattern. And then halfway through the song you get to hear some great solos that show the jazz style interpreted through the Floyd structure of music. The piano at the end is very solid and pairs well with the drums.

Seamus

This is voted by most fans as one of the worst Pink Floyd songs ever. I mean the song is ok, the music at least but the dog wailing is kind of off putting. They should have taken out the dog or reduced the actual volume.

Echoes

Easily one of Floyds greatest long concept songs. There is a synchronization theory between Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A space Odyssey" and this song. If you start the song right at the third act of 2001. I have watched it many times and believe it to be just dead on. It plays out much better than the Dark side of the moon synchronization theory. The distinct piano ping intro was created by Rick Wright quite by accident, it so mesmerized the band that they used it as a focal point in composing. ”do I take you by the hand”
