The Dark Side of the Moon

This personally is my second favorite Pink Floyd album, my first being the wall. This having been said, across the board this is in all likelihood the greatest album ever. It was on Billboards 200 album chart for fifteen years! And it was on for another two when it was re-mastered in 1994. one in every twenty people under the age of fifty own a copy of it in the United States. It has sold over forty million copies worldwide. This was an album that changed the face of music history. It is to me an ultimate concept album, with every song blending continually into the next and massive themes meticulously carried across the whole frontier of the soundscape. This is the album that sent Pink Floyd beyond just a cult band. The use of Musique concrète which they had used in previous albums came to full maturation in Dark Side. Its hard to even directly say where the music ends and the soundeffects begin, they just blend together in this philosophic psychedelic fusion. The only silence on the entire album is between the great gig in the sky and money when the album switches sides. Many have claimed that Dark Side of the Moon will synchronize with “The Wizard of OZ”. I have tried it on several occasions and I say that yes it matches quite well. But I only watch the movie until the album runs out I don't loop it back around, cause the second time it plays it doesn't match the movie as well.

Speak to Me:

The intro to this song starts with the beating of the human heart and becomes a jumble of different sound effects that explodes into one of the best melodies ever, I mean it sounds so smooth especially in comparison to the maniac soundeffects.

Breathe:

more mellow landscapes, striking lyrics and perfect composition.

On the Run:

Bizarre foray into musical composition. Features some of the most genius musical structures.

Time:

Great multitude of clocks going off, the beginning always reminded me of a western showdown. Great introspective and all to familiar train of thought lyrics.

The Great Gig in the Sky:

I love the female vocals in this piece, it is beyond words and then even beyond music itself.

Money:

Materialistic song about the love of money.

Us and Them:

Echoing lyrics and soft dreamy music. Deals with coming to terms with the realities of life.

Any Colour you Like:

Instrumental piece, very sharp sounds and powerful

Brain Damage:

The insanity based lyrics were based on the former Floyd Front man Syd Barrett

Eclipse:

Very encompassing song about all the things you experience in life, ends with the same beating heart from the first song
